College Football Week 7
Last week our newsletter mimicked that Colts-Broncos Thursday night game - We were awful early, terrible in the middle, and really bad late. Sports betting will deliver humble pie to anyone trying to bet into this market. Army got smoked by Wake. The moneyline moonshots had one near miss with UL-Monroe falling 28-21. The Arizona Wildcats got their head handed to them by Oregon. Time to dust ourselves off and fire away at this week’s betting board.
We are going to split up the newsletter this week and release NFL games later in the week.
College Football ML Moonshots
Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee +255 (Draftkings)
The “100 miles of hate” rivalry is one most people living outside Kentucky and Tennessee don’t know well. Should be a shootout and MTSU is a live home underdog.
Alabama at Tennessee +235 (DraftKings)
Game of the century in Knoxville. Are the Vols ready for this moment? Tennessee’s offensive pace is a massive challenge to defend. Bama will start either an injured Bryce Young or back-up Jalen Milroe. Advantage Vols.
UConn +300 at Ball State (FanDuel)
The Huskies are 3-4 and with a win at Ball State, could be on the road to bowl eligibility. If UConn gets bowl eligible, Jim Mora should get National Coach of the Year votes since he took over a dumpster fire in Storrs, CT. Mora will use the UConn ground attack to pace the game and hopefully spring the upset late.
College Football Sides
Stanford +17 at Notre Dame (available across the board)
Stanford is a tough team to back ATS. Their cover last week vs. Oregon State was their first cover in their previous 11 games. That being said, Stanford has the superior QB in Tanner McKee and despite losing in the final minute to Oregon State, the Cardinal should be a confident bunch. David Shaw is a smart coach and he knows TE Michael Mayer is Notre Dame’s best offensive weapon. The Irish really struggle to generate explosive plays which you need in the bag to cover a 17 point spread. Take the Cardinal here on the road.
Charlotte +23.5 at UAB (available across the board)
There are not a lot of people running to the betting window to say “give me the Charlotte 49ers” this week. 11% of the bets are on Charlotte. The game opened UAB -21 and has moved to UAB -23.5.
Charlotte QB Chris Reynolds is the best QB you’ve likely never heard of. Reynolds, a redshirt senior, has 75 career TD passes (22nd among NCAA active leaders, all divisions) and 8,813 career passing yards (25th, active). If the 49ers are going to cover a massive spread, Reynolds will be the key. On the UAB side of the ball, the Blazers are second in the country in team pass efficiency defense, 13th in passing yards allowed and tied for 23rd with seven interceptions. Big challenge for the 49ers, but with Reynolds and a very solid receiving corps, take the 23.5 and back Charlotte.
Good luck this week!
