College Football Week 12 is here...
Sometimes you have a weekend where nothing goes your way. You get a taste of being George Costanza from Seinfeld.
I knew my weekend was in big trouble when the Ravens no-showed on Thursday, Virginia’s QB was ruled out vs ND, and the North Carolina coaching staff couldn’t understand situational win probability. A quick synopsis of the late game blunder by UNC.
Down 3 points with 4th and goal from the three yard line, UNC decides to kick and tie the game. If you zoom out and look at the situation, the percentage play is going for it to take the lead 27-23. Why? 1) You are 5-4 and going nowhere 2) If you tie the game, you still leave Pitt a minute of game clock to drive and kick a FG to beat you. In overtime, if you win the toss, you can be in the exact same situation in OT if Pitt kicks a FG on their 1st possession. The takeaway, UNC could have more control of the outcome by trying to go up 4 points instead of kicking the FG and trying to score in a monsoon in OT.
On to week 12 and we need to stay focused and bounce back after a dreadful 0-3 on sides and totals last week.
Auburn at South Carolina +7 (-105 at DraftKings)
The Gamecocks need a win to get bowl eligible and I promise you that means something to their players. Going to a bowl is a big deal, especially if you are trying to build a culture like Shane Beamer in Columbia. On the flip side, Auburn already has a bowl bid secured and they come to town without their starting QB Bo Nix who is out of the season with a broken ankle. The South Carolina defense was sub-par last week vs. Missouri. They will bounce back this week to their season long form of being very stout.
I know this is a light card, but I will add more games to the card on Thursday so stay tuned.
